John's Birthday

We didn't do much for John's birthday last weekend, which is exactly what he wanted. He has been working so hard and so much lately that doing nothing is really becoming a luxury. Last weekend was a rare one, in that we actually had no plans at all and didn't have to leave the house. We watched some tv shows and movies on Saturday and had chili with sourdough bread bowls for dinner. Sunday we watched football, read, and had pizza and Sweet Potato Bourbon Cake for dessert.

John got some Pacific Crest Trail books from his Mom and a sweater from mine. I got him the newest Christopher Paolini book, Inheritance, and this:
which does have a purpose.

Since we've been making our famous pizza John has been trying to find a knife similar to the one he used at Pizza Hut, which has a curved blade with a handle across the top to easily cut the pizza without messing up the toppings. I spotted this one at Costco in September when Mom and Dad were here and knew I had to get it for him. As you can see, he likes it, and apparently its possibilities are endless (like cutting through blackberry patches). Now I just need to figure out where to put it so that we can still pass our home study!

Point of No Return

We finally dropped our Foster/Adoption paperwork in the mail yesterday! What a lot of information they want, I think we will have nothing sacred by the end of all this. Oh well, it's worth it.

Our next steps are to get physicals, fingerprints by the FBI, and take a CPR/First Aid and HIV/Blood-borne Pathogens class while we wait the 90 days for our license. We will be having a homestudy done sometime soon and probably will be told other things that we need to do. I guess I better get busy finding a doctor, now that we have insurance through John's work. We are signed up for the CPR class on December 10.

The second bedroom is a disaster area right now because we keep piling all the stuff for the kids in with my sewing setup and John's desk. I'm trying to do as much sewing as I can to clean out the closet. I really have no idea where I'm going to put all my crafting stuff! John's desk will go into our bedroom. Mom and Dad brought out our trundle beds last month and we now have a dresser, an escape ladder, and a fire extinguisher. We still have a few things left to buy, like mattresses, a laundry basket, and car seats. Some things we will have to get at the last minute when we know the ages and gender of the kids. If anybody has things to donate, I'm sure we can find a use for them!

That's all for now. I'm sure there will be more interesting information to share in the future.

UW vs Oregon

We were invited by a work friend of John's to the Huskies vs. Ducks game on Saturday. We decided it would be a fun early birthday present for John. We got to spend some time in the End Zone, which is sort of a party area for business people. It was just tents, but they served all kinds of food and drinks and is a fun place to hang out.

We found out a few days before the game that my Miller cousins were going, too. As you can see, they are huge Ducks fans!
(I stole these pics from Bud, hope you don't mind!)

We met up with Bud, Aymie, and Justin for some chili and brats before the game. They were tailgating in the parking lot and risking their lives to do so, as they were entirely surrounded by Huskies.
Our seats were in the eastern most section of the stadium. It was so fun to be at an energized college game, such a different atmosphere from a pro game. I made John stay with me for the half-time show to support the marching band. It was fun to see them and made me nostalgic for my marching band days. Sure we were dorks, but we always had a blast and were the biggest cheering section at the games!

Silliness with taking our own photo.
