First Week with Baby

We are parents! (Sort of.) We were finally able to bring our baby boy home from his special hospital last Wednesday. I can't go into details, but the staff there is amazing and we so appreciate the great care they took of him. He is a healthy, happy, normal baby. Two months old now and weighing 13 pounds! He is so sweet and we are really enjoying having him with us. He is starting to hold his head up a bit more each day and his favorite thing is our morning dog walks, where he stares at everything until he falls asleep against John's chest. It's so precious!

John had to go to Bozeman the same day our boy was released. It was weird dropping John at the airport and then picking up a baby. The dogs thought I played a mean trick! Thankfully, mom-in-law was able to come for a few days and help me figure things out. I probably would have been a wreck without her.

We had the room set up for older children when we got the call asking us to take him in. We spent the weekend in a whirlwind transforming the bedroom into a nursery and finding clothes and other necessary things for a baby. It's a work in progress, but I'm sure that will be true for a while. I'm already having to pull out the 0-3 month clothing because he's too big for them.

He loves looking at the tree above his changing table.

He was certainly a surprise for us. We did not bother getting licensed for infants originally because we knew that the chances of getting one are very slim. (The wait for adopting an infant can be as long as 7 years!) His social worker called us out of the blue saying that she had seen our home study and really wanted us to take him. While we were busy getting his room ready, our social worker was redoing our paperwork to make it possible for us to have him. It is amazing how God set this up for us and how he is continuing to work in this situation. We credit Him entirely for this miracle. We are hoping to adopt, but we are in the very early stages of his case. It can be as long as two years until his parents' rights are terminated and until then we are very restricted. We hope you will join us in praying for this little guy that God will work out the best for him, either with us or back at home with his bio-mom and dad.
